Ok, I'm looking at apartments for $500 in the Doraville area.  This is doable.  Really.  I can.

I found that apartmentfinders (or whatever it's called) on the corner of buford highway and north druid hills was the most amazing resource I had ever had when it came to finding places.
c
They get paid by the apartment peoples, so it's a free service for you.

You tell them how much you can afford, how big an area you're able to look in and any other things you need (gas stove, etc.) and they find it for you.

Be warned many of the apartments here in Doraville are cash only and Hispanic only. You will discover this if you show interest in enough places

For some reason it won't let me send you a message. I live in Peachtree Corners, just off Holcomb Bridge Road. The Doraville station is prolly about 5 miles away. Do you know where I'm talking about?

If I remember correctly, the 1 bedroom we were looking at in our complex was $560 a month.

Umm, there's a reason those are cheap, one of my girlfriends boyfriend was shot in the back in the parking lot of their doraville apartment complex like three weeks ago. Look at crime statistics before you commit to a place.. that area is worse than lithonia.

Oh, and they've decided based on cost and risk to move to lawrenceville.

Speaking from Norcross, which is not all that nice all over ... Doraville is pretty bad.

They have nearly affordable flats around here .. how many BR do you think you are trying to get?

I don't even need a bedroom. I need a bathroom with hot water, a door that locks, and electricity. Climate control would be a considerable plus. :)

Go south a little ways, and Chamblee seems okay. Granted, It's been over 4 years since I lived there, but I lived in 4 places there over the span of 5 years before we briefly moved to Miami. Of the 2 complexes I lived at, one was on Plaster Rd, near I-85, the other was across from Plaza Fiesta on Buford Highway. (and there are plenty of complexes in the area) I couldn't begin to tell you prices for them, but here's a quick search, centered on the airport. Hope that helped.
